Student Network settings

Allows you to set up the network transport for a Student. It must be the same as set at the Tutor.

TCP/IP

Use TCP/IP: This option controls whether the Student communicates with the Tutor using the standard TCP/IP transport. It is enabled by default.

Port: The TCP/IP protocol requires that a port number be allocated for applications to communicate through. The default registered port for NetSupport School is 5405.

Send Keep Alive Packets: Some TCP stacks send Keep Alive Packets. In some circumstances, it may be desirable to disable this. For example, on an ISDN line where a TCP/IP client is loaded, a symptom may occur where the ISDN line is brought up unintentionally.

Multicast address: This is the IP multicast address that the Student is listening on.

Use Name & Connectivity Server (Gateway): Enable this option if you want the Student's current IP address to register with a designated 'NetSupport Connectivity Server' at start up. Click Configure and enter the IP address of the Primary Connectivity Server and the matching security key. If you have configured a Secondary Connectivity Server, you can also enter its IP address to provide backup connectivity if the Primary Connectivity Server becomes unavailable.

Require HTTPS: Select this option if you want the Student to use secure HTTPS communication when connecting via the NetSupport Connectivity Server. This adds an extra layer of security for environments that require encrypted connections between Tutors and Students.

Note: This option only appears when the Use TCP/IP option is disabled.
